Anisa says brushes chose her. Her path into the beauty industry was not a perfectly planned founder story. It began with her family’s import-export business, a chance meeting with someone whose family manufactured cosmetic brushes and a willingness to try something new when her original plan fell apart. She worked as a waitress at night and sold brushes during the day. The lesson, according to her, is not “wait for destiny to do the work.” It is that sometimes the right opportunity looks random before it starts making sense.

When Elaine asks how Anisa works with top beauty brands, Anisa explains that the real answer is consistency. Whether a brush is sold in Japan, China, Atlanta or anywhere else, it needs to perform within a controlled range. Hair fallout, pull force, handle weight, density, shape and application all have to meet the standard. That kind of quality does not happen by accident, and it is also why Anisa International is not the cheapest option. When you promise quality, you have to own the responsibility.

Anisa explains her end-to-end business model, including two facilities in China that complete the product and run quality control inspections. But the more interesting part is that she does not see her company as an order-taker. She wants to understand what the brand needs, what product the brush will be used with, and how the tool can help differentiate the brand. In other words, the brush is part of the strategy, not just an accessory.

Anisa speaks honestly about her leadership evolution. In the early years, she was directive, intense, and focused on getting things done. Over time, she realized that energy was not always helping her team. As she grew, the team changed with her. She now focuses more on aligning around outcomes rather than dictating every step. It is a very real founder lesson: if the team keeps hitting the same wall, sometimes the wall is your leadership style.

Krupa does not define clean beauty through fear. For her, it is about being mindful of what goes into a product, how it affects the body short term and long term, and what consequences it may have for the environment. That includes things like biodegradability, aquatic toxicity, soil impact, and ingredients that may be restricted in one region but still allowed elsewhere. Clean beauty, in her view, is not about scaring people. It is about giving them better options.

Krupa explains exosomes in a way that actually makes sense: they are like tiny postcards carrying messages between cells. They can contain proteins, mRNA, peptides, amino acids and signals that help tell cells what to do next. That is why they can be powerful for wound healing. But the important part is context. The postcard has to get where it needs to go. Otherwise, it is just sitting on the porch.

Elaine brings up the idea that 80% of results come from what happens at home, and Krupa’s science-driven perspective supports the bigger point.
